Cashless Banking Awareness to Small Scale Vendors

Date: 10.01.17
Venue: West Tambaram , Chennai

The NCC cadets of 1(TN), Medical Unit, NCC, Sri Sairam Institute of Technology conducted a awareness camp on cashless transactions on 10th January 2017, Tuesday. The cadets were divided into batches and went to various parts in and around Tambaram to create an awareness on cashless banking to the small scale vendor. Along with the ANO Lt. Veerasundaram, the cadets visited many shops and explained the need of cashless economy post demonitisaton.

As the government was spreading the messages of cashless transactions by way of mobiles, net banking, Aadhar based mobile banking, etc in order to bring transparency into the financial system, the country can be rid of the scourge of black money. The government has also entrusted the NCC cadets to spread awareness campaign. In order to achieve this noble aim, our cadets chalked out an impressive campaign to educate the fellow students and their own kith and kin in their localities and villages. Our cadets went around the market of
Tambaram and taught the shopkeepers about the benefits of going cashless in transactions and also taught the procedure of using a swiping machine and it’s advantages. The cadets made the fruits and vegetables seller of the market ware of the advantages of various modes of cashless transactions and the shopkeepers were quite enthusiastic about the awareness drive. It was a one day program and all our cadets participated with full energy and enthusiasm with the guidance of our ANO and senior fellow cadets.

Tree Plantation

Date: 12.01.2017
Venue: Outer Ring Road and Sri Sairam Institute of Technology
Participated cadets: 32

Trees contribute to the environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil and supporting wildlife. Trees are an important part of every community. Our streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards are lined with trees that create a peaceful, aesthetically pleasing environment. Trees increase our quality of life by bringing natural elements and wildlife habitats into urban settings. We gather under the cool shade they provide during outdoor activities with family and friends. Many neighborhoods are also the home of very old trees that serve as historic landmarks and a great source of town pride. It said that the number of trees worldwide has fallen 46 percent since the dawn of agriculture 12,000 years ago and more than 15 billion trees are felled every year. That loss has significant implications for the planet in terms of climate change, biodiversity and humans.

According to the World Resources Institute, more than 80 percent of the Earth’s natural forests already have been destroyed. Up to 90 percent of West Africa’s coastal rain forests have disappeared since 1900. As to the “number of trees” this represents, it’s impossible to get an accurate count. Tree density in primary forests varies from 50,000-100,000 trees per square km, so the math would put this number at 3.5 billion to 7 billion trees cut down each year.

Keeping this in mind Sri Sairam group of Institutions have taken this in hand to restore the city into a greener one. YRC team takes the lead with the Institution and has planned to flood the campus with the tree saplings in the open space. For this a well grown (ranging from 4 to 5 ft) trees which is good in oxygen supply and requires low maintenance and water demand were procured from a nursery and kept stack in the college premises. Pits were dugged and the plants were rooted in it carefully and it is been maintained periodically. Housekeeping staffs ensure that it is periodically watered. In addition to this students form a group irrespective of their departments to take full responsibility in maintaining it. Proper knowledge about trees was also inculcated to the students by creating various awareness programs organized by different clubs in the campus.
